The Secret to Gaining Confidence

Let us know if this sounds familiar…

You’re ready to make a change, you tell yourself you’re going to do x (eat healthy, walk every day, exercise 5x/week, drink half your body weight in water, give up alcohol, etc).

Maybe you stick to it for a few days or a few weeks, but then life happens, you’re not as motivated, maybe you overcommit etc.

Did we get it right so far?

The frustrating part of this whole cycle is that it leads to having low confidence that you CAN successfully do the things you want to do; the habits and actions that you believe will lead you to feeling and looking better.

The secret to gaining confidence is to keep the promises to yourself!

Here are some tips on how to do that that we share with our clients:

1. You have to make time for the things you believe are valuable; that means putting them in your calendar and time blocking for it.

Want to go on a walk every day? Put it in your calendar. Treat it as a non-negotiable meeting with yourself.

2. Start slow. Pick one thing. Shoot a little bit UNDER what you really want to do. When you’ve hit it 100% consistently over a full week or more, add to it!

You want to drink 100 Oz of water every day but currently you’re only drinking 40 Oz? Start with 60 Oz first.

3. Find someone (a friend, a coach, a significant other) to help hold you accountable and you support you. Share your plans with them. Invite them to join you!

4. Make sure you’re surrounded by people that support the lifestyle you’re trying to live. If everyone around you is staying up late and eating take out when you’re focusing on healthy whole foods and getting more sleep, it’s going to be undoubtedly harder.

The secret sauce: regularly keep promises to yourself, treat promises you make to yourself the way you would treat promises you make to others, make promises you know you can keep, and do this over and over again, and confidence will soar (pun intended)!

If you’ve been struggling keeping promises to yourself and you found these tips helpful, share them with a friend or family member!
