The Power of Non-negotiables

You already have non-negotiables in your life.

Whether they are character based or habit based, you have them.

Not stealing from a store is probably a non-negotiable for you.

Brushing your teeth every day is probably a non-negotiable for you.

When it comes to building new habits, especially when it comes to your health, making them a non-negotiable is powerful.

The trick is to start with one thing!

Examples:

-every morning I’m going to drink 1 glass of water before I have coffee

-every day I’m going to go on a 10 minute walk

-I’m going to each a vegetable or fruit with every meal

-I’m going to go to the gym 3x/week

You get the point. Once you have a non-negotiable and it becomes second nature to you (like brushing your teeth), that’s when you can add another one.

Maybe you’ve created the habit that you drink a glass of water when you wake up and you don’t even think twice about it, so now you drink a glass of water when you wake up and with breakfast and lunch.

Or now you walk for 10 minutes a day no matter what so you bump it to 15 or 20 minutes.

Most people try to do way too much too fast, and they fail and give up.

Pick one thing that you know you can do. Maybe you’re already doing it, just not as much as you’d like.

Make it a non-negotiable. Track it. When you feel like it’s second nature, add something else.
