If you’ve ever been injured or had any aches or pains, you know exactly what we’re talking about.
It’s that moment when you realize the movements that were painful before aren’t painful anymore.
Like when it doesn’t hurt to pick your crying toddler up from the floor, or you can get something off the top shelf at the grocery store without your shoulder bothering you.
It’s a moment that feels incredibly liberating!
The problem is it’s just a feeling, and it’s not telling the whole story.
The rest of the story is that those tissues that were injured and are now healed are EXTREMELY WEAK.
They’re no longer damaged, but they aren’t as strong as they once were, and they aren’t as strong as everything around them that wasn’t damaged.
What does that mean?
They’re now the weakest link; the most susceptible to being re-injured.
What do most people do as soon as they “feel good again?” They go right back to the level of intensity they were working at before the injury.
They try things out to see how they feel, and if they feel fine, they do more, with no real plan and understanding of how tissues heal.
The weak link can’t handle it, and… POP! They’re right back where they started and the cycle begins again.
What most people don’t understand is that the real work doesn't start when you’re trying to get out of pain. The real work starts when you’re actually pain free.
That’s when the tissues are finally healed and can start taking on more load to allow them to become stronger and more resilient.
