Proactive Healthcare vs Reactive Healthcare

Let’s start by defining what we mean by proactive healthcare and reactive healthcare.

Proactive Healthcare: Utilizing exercise, nutrition, education, and mindfulness to take control of your health and stave off preventable conditions.

Reactive Healthcare: Utilizing medical intervention to treat or manage existing conditions; in our case, specifically preventable conditions

The types of preventable conditions or disease we are referencing include, but are not limited to: Diabetes, heart disease, musculoskeletal pain, stroke, and arthritis.

These are OUR definitions, and we kind of made them up.

But, truthfully, this is how we view them within our scope.

The list of PREVENTABLE illnesses and conditions is longer than you think.

The simplest way to prevent them is to eat a well balanced diet, regularly exercise, get quality sleep, and take care of your mental health.

Notice we didn’t say the EASIEST way. Just because something is simple, doesn’t mean it’s easy.

We know this to be true, and a huge part of what we do here with our clients is not just what’s mentioned above, but it includes a lot of education and mentorship.

What we see too often is individuals diagnosed with conditions or Illnesses, and given reactive healthcare (medication, which very well be warranted at that point), and stopping there.

The way we view proactive healthcare is that it truly doesn’t matter when you start, but the key is to start.

Is it better to instill the habits prior to needing it after utilizing reactive healthcare? For sure.

Does that mean that if you’re pre-diabetic or diabetic or on high blood pressure medication you shouldn’t ALSO be proactive about your healthcare? No way.

Now, let us restate that this is simple, but not easy for MANY who find themselves in these situations.

Our consistent advice:

1) Ask for help! You don’t have to figure it out alone

2) Start small! Small, incremental changes over time make a huge difference

3) It’s never too late to start! You can start right now

If you found this valuable, we would love it if you would share it so others can benefit as well!

And if you or someone you know needs support and guidance on making these changes to their lifestyle, we would love to help!
